Boston Lyric Opera has received international
acclaim as the fastest-growing opera company in the United
States, and it is establishing itself as one of the preeminent
opera companies in North America. BLO produces a season of
fully staged opera that features the world’s most promising
young singers, directors, conductors, and designers.
Only with your support can BLO continue
to produce high quality opera and offer tickets at an affordable
price. Opera, the most exhilarating of art forms, is also
the most expensive to produce; it combines highly trained
singers, chorus, a full orchestra, dancers, and elaborate
sets and costumes. Heavily subscribed, BLO performances routinely
sell out. Ticket revenues, however, cover less than one-third
of the production costs. With an operating budget of $6 million
this year, the Company must raise over $4 million in contributions.
Your tax-deductible contribution will
help cover production costs. It also will provide for highly
regarded educational and outreach programs, such as Opera
New England, which brings fully staged opera to 25,000 young
people annually. Your support will assist BLO in fulfilling
its mission of training and promoting young artists entering
the field by affording master classes, career development
guidance, and production or performance opportunities for
young professionals.
