I’ll Take Manhattan
BLO is known the world over for identifying and presenting the next generation of opera stars. This weekend in New York captures two beloved BLO “alumni” in career-defining performances that will be talked about for years to come. Your experience begins on Friday night, March 28th, at the legendary Metropolitan Opera with Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. Deborah Voigt, whose 1991 BLO debut catapulted her to international fame as one of the world’s great dramatic sopranos, performs the iconic role of Isolde for the first time at the Met. The leading dramatic tenor of our time, Ben Heppner, portrays the other half of the archetypal couple on their mystical journey of love, sex, and death.
On Saturday night, March 29th, you will return to Lincoln Center to see the historic, first-ever Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony- and Pulitzer Prize- winning South Pacific at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, starring baritone Paulo Szot as Emile de Becque. Mr. Szot made his acclaimed BLO debut just last spring as the smoldering Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (and we hope to announce his return to our stage very soon!) The Rodgers and Hammerstein score includes numerous American songbook classics, including "Some Enchanted Evening," and also stars Kelli O'Hara.

Beyond The Sea
Maybe there is a connection between opera and the ocean, because many of Boston’s most dedicated opera fans are also dedicated sailors. We asked them to describe a “once in a lifetime” sailing experience and here’s what they told us—a day of sailing on an America’s Cup 12-meter yacht out of Newport. This unique sailing experience is provided by 12 Meter Charters and donated by Tania Zouikin and Dan Prigmore.
12 Meter Charters’ fleet of America’ Cup yachts includes an America’s Cup winner, one of the only 3-time America’s Cup contenders, and an America’s Cup yacht converted into a prize-winning ocean racer. You and your guests (up to 14 people in all) can sit back and enjoy the day while 12 Meter’s expert crew explores spectacular Narragansett Bay. Or if you’re in the mood for something more active, you can take the helm for the entire day – or anything in between. Charters may be scheduled May through October.
You can relax after your day at sea in your luxury accommodations at the award-winning Hotel Viking situated atop Newport, RI's Historic Hill neighborhood with breathtaking views. This historic hotel has recently completed a $6.2 million renovation. Considered one of the top luxury spa hotels in New England, it offers an elegant view of history,
and a grand way to live in the moment.
If you’d like to journey through time to historic Newport, you can visit one of America's premier collections of historic homes. Here you will find a world of exceptional elegance and inspiration in architecture, art, interior design and landscapes. Explore 250 years of American history at 11 historic properties, located on 80 acres of gardens and parks.

An Actor’s Life For Me
You’ve always known that you belong on the stage—this is your chance to prove it! The winner of this extraordinary opportunity will make a guest appearance (non-singing!) in BLO’s upcoming production of Puccini’s La bohème.
The evening begins with dinner for you and a guest at The Bristol Lounge with baritone John Whittlesey, a longtime member of BLO’s professional ensemble, who will be your guide throughout the performance. John will escort you backstage to makeup and wardrobe as you are prepared for your grand entrance in the Act II Café Momus scene. When the curtain rises, you will “shadow” John throughout the Act as you experience the thrill of performing for a packed house on the stage of the historic Shubert Theatre. Meanwhile, your guest can enjoy the entire performance from the Stage Manager’s desk where you will join him/her for Acts III and IV.
Following your debut, unwind overnight in well-earned luxury at the renowned Four Seasons Hotel, where they know how to treat a star. (And how to keep the paparazzi away!)
Your debut may be scheduled for the November 4th (matinée), 7th, 9th, 11th (matinée) or 13th performances of La bohème (Opening Night excluded.)
