The Boris Goldovsky Society
In 2000, Boris Goldovsky kindly agreed to
allow BLO to name its planned giving society in his honor.
In February 2001, the legendary opera impresario died at his
home in Brookline at the age of 92.
Mr. Goldovsky can be credited for helping
to bring opera into the 20th Century and for defining the
art form for American audiences as theater through music.
He not only entertained and educated artists and audiences,
but also helped shape the world of opera on both sides of
the stage lights. Many opera enthusiasts remember his many
informative and entertaining Saturday Metropolitan Opera intermission
talks, his books, lectures, training workshops, and performances.
"The Board and staff are honored and
humbled that Mr. Goldovsky recognized how closely aligned
are the focus of his life’s work and BLO’s own
mission. After much discussion about the naming of the planned
giving program, it was felt that Mr. Goldovsky’s long
association with opera in Boston, where he has made his home
for over half a century, and his extraordinary achievements
and influence upon the world of opera should be recognized
and honored," said Janice Mancini Del Sesto, General
Director.
The planned gifts made by members of the
Boris Goldovsky Society will help BLO carry on Mr. Goldovsky’s
legacy of nurturing the careers of the world’s most
promising young singers, conductors, directors, and designers,
and bringing world-class opera to new audiences. These funds
will enable BLO to continue to produce high quality opera
for the community and to educate and attract the next generation
of audience, supporters and opera professionals.
Membership in the Boris Goldovsky Society
is given in recognition of those who have made a provision
in a will, living trust, deferred gift plan or retirement
plan that will benefit Boston Lyric Opera. Through its participation
in the Boston Foundation Endowment Partners Program, BLO offers
a full range of gift planning vehicles and services to meet
the needs of its supporters. To become a member or for more
information about the Boris Goldovsky Society, please contact
