One of the most beloved operas of all time, Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro was considered very controversial during the composer’s life due to its underlying message of equality and freedom, espoused during a particularly turbulent era. The talk will focus on the genesis of this great opera, from the original French Beaumarchais play to its triumph in Prague during the 18th century, then turn to the different ways it has been received and the effect staging, costuming and set design have had on the work. Enjoy an inside look at the art of costuming with images and costumes from the Boston Lyric Opera production.
Course participants are entitled to a 10% discount on tickets to Boston Lyric Opera’s production of Le nozze di Figaro.
