BRAVO! is Boston Lyric Opera’s ongoing series of events for young professionals under the age of 40. Designed to attract Boston-area young professionals to try opera, BLO launched the initiative in November 2007 with Bravo Bohème. The highlight of Bravo Bohème was a Saturday night performance of Puccini’s popular La bohème with half-priced tickets for people in their 20s and 30s. The performance was completely sold out with 80% of the audience under the age of 40. In addition to the half-price performance, Bravo Bohème included an after party with the cast at Blu Restaurant and Bar immediately following the performance which was also sold out.
Bravo Bohème was made possible, in part, by a generous grant from the American Express Performing Arts Fund.

“Opera is an incredibly moving emotional roller coaster that many people in my age group don’t yet appreciate because they’ve never actually attended a performance,” says audience member, Dr. Cicely Jette, age 32. “The intensity of the music, voices and storyline absolutely penetrate the very core of your being. I think once we get more young people in the door, they will be instantly hooked.”
