Boston Lyric Opera is thrilled to announce that we surpassed our $260,000 fundraising goal for
The Century Gala held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at The Four Seasons, Boston.

The event brought music and dramatic narrative together to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the original Boston Opera House on Huntington Avenue in 1909 and toasted the artistry, legacy and future of opera in Boston.

The multi-media theatrical celebration, devised and written by BLO’s Artistic Advisor John Conklin, contained excerpts from over 30 different operas and was organized into three short Acts and an Intermezzo.

Ron Della Chiesa, Russell Patterson, and JoAnne Walton Dickinson brought the script to life with their narration. Vocalists for the evening included Anton Belov, Jesse Blumberg and Mara Bonde who will be performing this spring in our production of R. Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as, Sandra Piques Eddy, Steven Sanders and Caroline Worra who will be performing in BLO’s new production of Mozart’s Idomeneo, re di Creta which will open in the spring as well.

Proceeds from the evening benefit BLO and its education and community programs.
