Boston Lyric Opera is seeking applications for local Assistant Stage Managers (ASMs) for the 2008 – 2009 season consisting of three mainstage operas; Les contes d’ Hoffmann, Rusalka, and Don Giovanni. This position reports directly to the Production Stage Manager (PSM). Duties include assisting the PSM with organizing and running of all staging, musical, and technical rehearsals. The ASMs will create necessary prop, wardrobe, deck running, and production paperwork, including the preparation of a score.
The ASMs will organize and call backstage cues including but not limited to deck moves, Principal Artist and Chorus entrances during all rehearsals and performances, and also assist in the coordination and supervision of show preset, show running, and scene shifts.
The ASM will also help in the supervision of a Production Intern.
Requirements:
- Ability to read music.
- Ability to read technical drawings.
- Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years experience in a professional opera setting is preferred.
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office.
- Experience working in a union setting preferably AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists), AFofM, and IATSE.
- Experience with languages; French, Czech, Italian.
- Excellent management, organizational, and communication skills and be able to manage a large workload over a short period of time.
Boston Lyric Opera is a signatory of an Opera Agreement with AGMA. The applicant must be a member of or willing to join AGMA. Salary is based on negotiated rates in the collective bargaining agreement.
Boston Lyric Opera performs in the historic Citi Performing Arts CenterSM Shubert Theatre in Boston’s Theatre District.
